Gavin Inglis´Biography

Here I will talk about his life, mainly about his works.

Gavin originates from «somewhere near Paisley» but has lived in Edinburgh’s South Side since 1989, apart from a short venture to London. He has been writing fiction for twelve years.

His stories have appeared in a variety of publications, from the dizzy heights of Scottish Book Collector and Groundswell to the rarefied havens of 3AM and Pinball Player magazines. He has scripted comic strips for Liverpool’s Weird City magazine. Watch out for his chilly contribution to Canadian anthology Grunt & Groan: The New Fiction Anthology of Work and Sex.

His novel for young adults Mirror Widow won the Instant Books print-on-demand competition at the Edinburgh Book Festival 2002. All publishers and agents seem determined to call it Mirror Window.

Gavin is an ex-busker, ex-handyman, ex-public relations executive, ex-system administrator, and an excellent judge of character.

I have found this writing by himself;
I’m a writer and performer based in Edinburgh, Scotland. You can find my work in various books and magazines: Read by Dawn 2, The One o’Clock Gun, Nova Scotia and Grunt and Groan: The New Fiction Anthology of Sex and Work among others.

I believe that the average person associates a literary reading with being bored for an extended period and worrying that they might commit an unforgivable sin by coughing in the wrong place. I hope to present a lively alternative which holds your attention all the way through. Of course, this means I play a lot of pubs.

My new book Crap Ghosts is a collection of sixteen tales of inadequate apparitions and substandard spooks. Get it before the spirit world does.

Anyway I haven´t found many wesites about him , just a few pages about his works. I just have found more information about his biography is his official website;

My first published fiction was in my primary school magazine, with a tense little piece called Into A Black Hole…and Beyond. I am still bitter that my teacher at the time made me use the goofy, overenthusiastic CONDITION: RED ALERT! instead of the icy, atmospheric, tech-savvy CONDITION: RED.

As I finished a degree in Artificial Intelligence at Edinburgh University, I started taking fiction seriously. Early stories like Out of Time found publication in Scottish Book Collector and similar magazines. Then I started thinking about writing novels.

My dark little gothic tale for grumpy teenagers, Mirror Widow, won a competition at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, beating off sixty other manuscripts to take the top spot. The Scottish Publishers Association issued a very limited run of the novel in only ten days, from copyediting to cover design, typesetting and production. If you want to read Mirror Widow, you can find a copy in the National Library.

2004 saw the publication of my first flash fiction collection, Crap Ghosts. Ten tales of incompetent apparitions and substandard spooks, this is very nearly sold out.

2005 was good to me, with the angry Glaswegian fish story, Pisces Ya Bas, in the newly released Scottish anthology Nova Scotia, and a couple of others in anthologies. I was also awarded a New Writers’ Bursary from the Scottish Arts Council which I very much appreciate.

Along the way I’ve appeared on Radio Scotland and Leith FM, written and acted comedy at the Edinburgh Fringe, and scripted several published comics. I collaborated with the band Spylab on their This Utopia album. Waiting for release is another track I wrote for the band Cinephile, performed by Christopher Cazenove.

I teach a night class in flash fiction at Edinburgh University.
